Specifically, when it comes to the wallet, everyone’s suffering…of that there can be no doubt. And what of the financial prospects for musicians and recording artists in the years to come? Shaky, at best. Unless you’re one of the grotesque ‘Idol’-type pop disasters in the top 5, you’re looking at getting a day job or finding other sources of income. Conventional wisdom amongst my peers has been remarkably short-sided over the last decade: “Yeah, CD sales are down, but all the money is in licensing.” Not anymore. “Yeah, licensing money is down, but the video game industry is killing it.” Less so these days, according to recent data. “Well, the real money is in touring.” Really? When was the last time you saw a ‘new,’ post-record company artist headline a major music festival? At this rate, we’ll be stuck with Coldplay for decades (no offense intended).

Although the article is serious in nature, DJ Shadow lets us know he is aware of his status as an old-school cat & the effect it has on his perspecitve.. Shadow prefaces the article: “WARNING: RAMBLING TIRADE FROM A 37-YEAR OLD TECHNOPHOBE BELOW”

This one’s an easy one: The bassline in the breakdown in Joris Voorn’s tune sounds very similar to Giorgio Moroder’s “Chase”, the theme song he created for the 1978 movie Midnight Express. Both are great tunes, check them out below.

Armin Van Buuren Video Game for Wii

A recent post on gamezplay.org has revealed some interesting news about a new video game potentially featuring Armin Van Buuren. According to the article, the game is called “Armin van Buuren – In The Mix” and is being developed on the ubiquitous Nintendo Wii video game system.

The game is reportedly being developed by Foreign Media Games and will feature music from AvB himself, along with other artists’ work that he regularly supports and features in his mix compiliations , like his newest Armin Van Buuren – A State of Trance 2009.

It looks like this will be an “Armin Only” DJ Hero-type game. Gamers will likely have the ability to perform djing moves, create effects, and enact various other moves. We can only hope that they include a “Jesus Pose” move.

Armin Van Buuren is at it again with the 2009 installment of his “A State of Trance” mix compilation series. AvB’s A State of Trance 2008 was a great success and yet another factor that has helped him maintain his reign as #1 DJ in the World in 2008. It’s been a heavy year for DJ Armin van Buuren. Non-stop touring, setting up his own Armin Only show, prolonging his number one status in DJ Mag’s Top 100 of 2008, providing more than 30 million trance fans with his weekly radioshow, releasing his third artist album ‘Imagine’ and last but not least, crashing into the charts with the fifth edition of the A State of Trance series. Best of Paul Van Dyk - Volume

Ultra records is set to release Paul Van Dyk’s new album, “Volume”. DJ and producer PvD is putting out this album covering over 15 years of his musical resume. The collection is titled “Volume” and will be out on June 9th in physical stores and may 26th in digital formats on Ultra Records. There is an accompanying US tour planned, starting in June.
